I am Marcela Perrusquia, a visual artist and art educator from Mexico, now based in the Netherlands. My story is one of perseverance. Though I began my academic journey in Medicine and Surgery, the difficult reality of the power-imbalanced, male-dominated healthcare system in Mexico profoundly affected my mental health. This led me to a life-changing decision: I quit medicine and pursued my truest passion – Visual Arts. I studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Queretaro, Mexico and Granada, Spain. After graduating (BA in Visual Arts, with honors), I moved to the Netherlands. My journey as an immigrant inspires my work on themes such as migration, mental health awareness, and women’s empowerment. I blend my experiences in both art and medicine to create thought-provoking, multidisciplinary works. I believe that, just as medicine heals, art empowers by giving voice to the underrepresented, and the oppressed – shaping perception and fostering meaningful dialogue within and across cultures.
